Although rather worn at this point, this is probably one of my favorite furniture finds ever. Those that know me, understand that I have a complete weakness for anything with drawers. It can be a tiny hardware metal drawer cabinet for the garage or a rolling library card holder. I don't think I've run into a vintage drawer cabinet that I didn't want.
I found the above cabinet at an estate sale on Saturday. It didn't have a price tag on it and it was only when I was checking out that I remembered it. I asked if by chance it was for sale. I was shocked when the seller said yes. I asked how much and he replied $150.00. While I picked my jaw up off the floor, I said I'll take it. I hadn't really looked at it properly and didn't see it again until Monday when I went to pick it up. I didn't care about the condition or wear. I just knew that I loved it and it would be perfect.
It does need a lot of TLC but it's a project that I'm going to enjoy. My initial plans is placing it in the small warehouse that my dad is going to build for me this summer on my homestead. My other plan down the line, is having it in my Antique Curators store. It will be perfect to hold inventory for sale.
The opening at the side I think was for a rubbish bin? What do you think? The two drawers on the left appear to have been replaced by old yet slightly smaller drawers. It's funky but I love it.
It's over 8 feet long. It barely fit in my van but thankfully it wasn't too hard to move once the drawers were out. I had to have help loading it and more help placing it in the house. It takes up one wall of the living room. Maybe I'll start working on the drawers now since I can remove them and take them to my workshop.
I can't wait to one day put this in my store. I will long for the day when I fill out the cards to place in the drawer handles. I can just see it full of vintage stationary supplies like old brushes, vintage pen nibs, typewriter paper and so forth.
It's not mid century modern but hopefully will fit in. I think if anything, it's a conversation piece when people come into my home.
It's definitely in the my list of top 10 finds ever. What is an item in your top 10 finds list?
